NOTES / REFERENCES: Lis Petersen. Born in Oslo, Norway in 1957. Studied at the Academy of Arts, in Bergen, Norway. In the early 1980s she moved back to Oslo, there, living and working with a collective of ten other artists, she began exhibiting her pieces

She often paints thin oils on paper, using an ancient tempera technique, sometimes with collage and fixing selected works on canvas with a wax method - her choice these days.

Lis has found inspiration in varied themes: her family; staying next to what was once Edvard Munch’s house one winter; rail trips across Europe to visit the famous museums; and at the beginning of the 90s, setting up shop in the narrow streets of Tavira, on the Southeast tip of the Algarve, Portugal. She has lived in Portugal for the last 20 years.
