Attractive original illustration painting for the dust jacket of "Tamoa", a novel by Peter B. Kyne, Spanish edition. Circa 1928.

Dean Cornwell was the artist who illustrated the American edition of the book, published in 1923. The book is about "a barefoot native girl, skimpily dressed, her hair wild and her aspect wilder", who is the daughter of a Polynesian Queen ("Tamea" is her name in the English edition). This painting depicts her on a South Pacific beach probably in Hawaii or Tahiti.

NOTES / REFERENCES: A Hollywood film version of the novel Tamoa was made in 1931. That film was titled "Never the Twain Shall Meet". Produced and distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and starring Leslie Howard and Conchita Montenegro. The film was directed by W. S. Van Dyke and was filmed in Tahiti like Van Dyke's two previous south sea adventures.

The partial dust jacket is missing the back cover and looks never to have been used on a book. The image of the woman is a separate printed sheet, tacked down to the dust cover, and also in good condition.
