A signed photograph of aviator Amelia Earhart with pilot Wilmer Stultz and mechanic Louis Gordon. Measuring 7" x 5.25", n.p., n.d. (ca. 1928). Signed "Amelia Earhart" at the center of the image. Earhart is seen holding her coat draped over her arm, flanked by Stultz dressed in a dark suit and bowtie and Gordon holding a wrapped package. Stamped on verso "W J Noel" and captioned in pencil "killed July 1rst 1929/Wilmer Stultz." The photo is slightly curled. Several creases and tears which have been repaired on verso. An area of loss at the top right have been repaired. Mounting residue on verso. Boldly signed.

Wilmer Stultz (1900-1929) was an aviator who made the first non-stop flight between New York City and Havana. He joined the United States Army Air Force in 1917 and was assigned to the 634th Aero Supply Squadron, reaching the rank of Sergeant. He was discharged in early 1919 but joined the United States Naval Air Service in December of that same year. Stultz made the first non-stop flight between New York City and Havana, Cuba on March 5, 1928. He was also the pilot of the Fokker Trimotor "Friendship" on June 18, 1928, when Earhart became the first woman passenger to cross the Atlantic Ocean by airplane. Stultz was tragically killed on July 1, 1929, after he crashed while intoxicated during a flight at Roosevelt Field in Mineola, New York.
