Amelia Earhart Signs a Luncheon Program?Just Three Days After Her First Solo Flight!
Signed Menu/Program

Fine and scarce signed program for a special event in London, May 23, 1932: the "Luncheon to his Excellency the American Ambassador Criterion Restaurant, Monday May 23, 1932" hosted by the Institute of Journalists. 4pp bifold, measuring 5? x 8? and printed in burgundy and red ink. Earhart boldly signs in pencil on verso. A central fold and overall expected toning, otherwise in near fine condition.

On May 20, 1932, Earhart took off from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, carrying with her a copy of New Brunswick, Canada?s ?Telegraph-Journal? given to her by Canadian journalist Stuart Trueman, and quite possibly an attendee at this event. The flight landed the next day in Derry, Ireland, thus making Earhart the second person and the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

Stuart Trueman (1911-1995) was a Canadian journalist and author who covered Earhart?s first solo flight for the ?Telegraph-Journal?. He gave her a copy of the edition directly off the press before she left so that once she landed she could prove she had flown the whole way.
