Description
Sixth plate outdoor daguerreotype of Niagara Falls. Housed in a full leatherette case.
Rare early view of Niagara Falls.
Drawing attention as early as 1604 during Samuel de Champlain's exploration, the spectacular falls have perpetually inspired artists and photographers. Tourism expanded in the 19th century and the first known photograph of the falls was taken by Hugh Lee Pattinson.
The view here is taken from Prospect Point, showing the American Falls, and a partial view of Bridal Veil Falls and Goat Island. The Horseshoe Falls are visible further on, partially obscured by the iconic mist.
Condition: hinge separated.
