Notes: A trained architect, Lovet-Lorski attended the Imperial Academy of Art in Petrograd (now the Russian Academy of Arts, St. Petersburg), before emigrating to the United States in 1920. He eventually settled in New York, where he made the decision to concentrate on sculpture. Influenced by his architectural training and inspired by the emerging stylistic trend of Art Deco, Lovet-Lorski began to create a series of nude figures in bronze. With their slightly exaggerated, elongated limbs and sharp, angular contours, these exquisite figures reference both the emerging technology of the early 20th century and the tenets of classical sculpture. With their extremely polished surfaces, these sculptures practically glow with a sense of vitality. The bronze offered here, "Golden Girl", is one of the artist's most well-known models and is a wonderful example of his work at its most successful and accomplished. Lovet-Lorski was made a Chevalier du Legion d'Honneur in 1950, and was a Fellow of the National Academy of Design.

In overall good condition. Was re-plated recently. Scattered small circular areas of oxidation/discoloration, including center of back, back of proper left thigh, right upper thigh and mid-calf, scattered pinprick-sized other areas. Vertical linear area of discoloration under head. Please refer to additional images. Oxidizing with accompanying accretions at feet, including discoloration to surface and small hole (approx. 1/8" dia.) at back seam where feet meet. Please see detail image. This is not a gilt-bronze sculpture, but it does have a gold surface. It was re-plated by the consignor recently to achieve the look of the original golden surface Plating was done in two steps: first a heavy copper plating was applied and then a nickel-bronze plate. It was then waxed but not sealed.
