A 1950s Alosa Black King archtop guitar in black finish. Owned and played by Randy Bachman, who has sold 40 million records worldwide as a member of The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and as a solo artist. Part of a larger collection of German archtop guitars from the 1940s-1960s.

The Alosa brand was an a combination of Alois Sandner’s first and last names. Sandner one of many Bubenruth luthiers producing guitars in the 1940s-late 1950s, the Black King and Black Queen models being perhaps the most well-known guitars to come out of his company.

The Black King features a pearloid headstock with Alosa logo, six tuners, white-black-white nut, and zero fret one a five piece neck. A bound 20-fret rosewood fretboard with pearloid block inlays. Carved spruce top with two bound sickle shaped sound holes and one diamond-shaped sound hole located just below the neck. Rope binding on the top, with multi-ply white and black lining the maple back and sides. Tailpiece engraved, “Alosa Black King” with an adjustable rosewood bridge.
