Item Details
Description
an intricately worked scissor form sugar tong marked "IC", possibly John Coburn, Boston (1725-1803). Coburn was born in York, Maine and was active in Boston from 1745 to 1790. A closely related example is in the collection of The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas. That example has apparent owner's marks "EF" for Enoch Freeman, who was know to have frequented Coburn's shop. No marked examples by Coburn are otherwise known, although both the MFA Houston example and another illustrated in Kathryn C. Buhler, American Silver, Vol 1, page 315, number 271 are attributed to Coburn. 4 1/2" long. Weight: 0.705 OZT. Expected age and use wear. *No credit card payments will be accepted for silver, gold, or jewelry from buyers that have not purchased from our gallery in the past.
