Luristan Copper Spiked War Axe Head
Luristan Copper Spiked War Axe Head
Item Details
Description
Ancient Near East, Luristan, ca. 1000 CE. A fine copper pick axe of elegant form with a sophisticated design to the tip and a flared back behind a rimmed socket. The long horizontal blade is balanced by a vertical blade on the butt end and a central spike. The design of similar axe heads in museum collections are often attributed to either Mesopotamia / Sumer or Luristan cultures possibly due to their geographical proximity, cultural influences, overall limited knowledge of Luristan culture, and the greater name recognition of Mesopotamia. Size: 6.5" L x 1" W x 2.75" H (16.5 cm x 2.5 cm x 7 cm)

Provenance: private Everett, Massachusetts, USA collection, purchased on December 30, 2020

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
