West Africa, Nigeria or Ghana, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. An interesting lion devouring a bird carving, made from a single piece of wood, the eyes inlaid with white bone and ebony. Size: 9.75" L x 5.25" W x 18" H (24.8 cm x 13.3 cm x 45.7 cm)

Provenance: private Los Angeles, California, USA collection, acquired before 2000

Mineral deposits on surface from exposure to elements. Stable pressure fissures. Chips and abrasiosns to wood throughout, but otherwise no repairs or restoration. Nice weathered appearance. Old label on the base says this is Ashante.
