Description
Louis Safer (American, 1913-2002). Oil on canvas painting from the "Greek Orthodox Archons" series depicting an abstract figure in pastel colors. Signed along the lower right.
Safer moved to Minnesota in the mid-1950s to teach at the University of Minnesota as a professor of art. He was a disciple of synchronism, a style created by his mentor Professor Stanton Macdonald-Wright, which is similar to Cubism. This style was a form of abstraction characterized by using intervals between colors in what has been described as the visual equivalent of music.
Unframed; height: 24 in x width: 20 in. Framed; height: 31 in x width: 27 in x depth: 3 1/4 in.

Condition
The colors are bold and bright. The surface is stable. The are no visible losses, creases, or tears. There is light craquelure throughout. No signs of restoration. Fraying along extreme edges of canvas along the verso. Light soiling to the verso that does not affect recto. Wear to the frame.
