Description
A Pennsylvania Chippendale Walnut Blanket Chest, Second Half 18th Century. The strap hinged rectangular top with breadboard ends and applied molded edge enclosing a dovetail-constructed box having a left covered till, with waist molding over two drawers, raised on dovetailed bracket feet. With Rococo pierced brass hardware, tulip poplar and walnut secondary woods.
Dimensions: Height 29 1/4in; width 49 3/4in; depth 22 3/4in.
Provenance: Property from the Collection of C. Thomas Attix Jr., East Windsor, New Jersey.
Condition
Structurally sound. Retaining an older surface. Heavy wear, marks, staining and area of fading to the top, small square shaped patch. The front of the blanket chest lacking a brass escutcheon. With iron key. The lower left drawer lacking an escutcheon. The lower drawers with lockplates, but no keys. Typical marks, wear, nicks, abrasions and surface scratches throughout.
