Description
A Pennsylvania Chippendale Walnut Blanket Chest, Second Half 18th Century. The strap hinged rectangular two board top with breadboard ends and applied molded edge enclosing a dovetail-constructed box having a left covered till, with waist molding over three drawers, raised on dovetailed bracket feet. With tulip poplar secondary wood.
Dimensions: Height 29in; width 50 1/4in; depth 22 1/4in.
Provenance: Property from the Collection of C. Thomas Attix Jr., East Windsor, New Jersey.
Condition
Structurally sound. Retaining an old surface. Heavy wear, marks, staining and area of fading to the top. The brasses with wear and toning. No key. The lower left drawer face with an old loss to the lip of upper right corner. The three brass escutcheons are replaced, otherwise retaining original hardware. Typical marks, wear, nicks, abrasions and surface scratches throughout.
