Inscribed on the back "To Lyn From AP Xmas 1953" Also signed in pencil to the rear is "Lumberville, PA. Austin Purves 1919" which is very difficult to read with oblique lighting. The works of Austin M. Perves Jr. are rarely offered for sale and this painting descended from a close family of Purvis when they lived in Litchfield Connecticut. This painting was likely executed before Purves entered the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1919. Purves gave a similar painting to this consigner family of "The studio of Daniel Garber" and these both are very similar in framing and execution. Measures 11-1/2" x 15-1/2" x 1" deep.
