The Zoetrope is one of several pre-film animation devices that produce the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs showing progressive phases of that motion. It was basically a cylindrical variation of the Phénakisticope, suggested almost immediately after the stroboscopic discs were introduced in 1833. The definitive version, with easily replaceable picture strips, was introduced as a toy by Milton Bradley in 1866 and became very successful. This Zoetrope is in beautiful, original and complete condition, made by the Luxus-Papier-Fabrik Adolf Sala in Berlin. With decorative case cover motif, drum Ø 11 in., wood base. With 18 double sided paper strips. Rare in this condition.

Ein Zoetrop ist eines von mehreren Animationsgeräten aus der Zeit vor dem Film, die die Illusion von Bewegung erzeugen, indem sie eine Folge von Zeichnungen oder Fotografien zeigen, die progressive Phasen dieser Bewegung darstellen. Es handelte sich im Grunde um eine zylindrische Variante des Phénakisticope, die fast unmittelbar nach der Einführung der stroboskopischen Scheiben im Jahr 1833 eingeführt wurde. Die endgültige Version mit leicht austauschbaren Bildstreifen wurde 1866 von Milton Bradley als Spielzeug eingeführt und war sehr erfolgreich. Das angebotene Zoetrope (Lebensrad) ist in sehr schönem, originalem und vollständigem Zustand, hergestellt von der Luxus-Papier-Fabrik Adolf Sala in Berlin. Mit dekorativem Gehäusedeckelmotiv, Trommel Ø 28cm, gedrechselter Holzsockel. Mit 18 doppelseitigen lithographierten Papierstreifen. Selten in diesem Zustand.
