Ulysses S. Grant's personal copy of "War Powers Under the Constitution of the United States", inscribed to him by the author. Boston: Lee and Shepard Publishers, 1871. Large octavo, xxviii, 695pp including an Index. Signed on the front free end page: "For U.S. Grant. President of the United States with the respect of William Whiting (35 Court St Boston)." Green leather bound with gilt titling at the spine. Housed in a custom presentation case. Cracked spine is starting to separate from the text block. Light toning to the page edges. Scratching and wear to the covers. Lightly bumped edges and corners. Boldly signed, very good overall.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
