Four Russian Imperial Porcelain Factory Plates from the Gatchina Palace Service Russian Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, various dates 8-5/8 inches (21.9 cm) (each) PROVEANANCE: Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna; Grand Duchess Ksenia Alexandrovna; Prince Nikita Alexandrovich; Prince and Princess Nikita Romanoff; Private Collection, New York, a gift from the above. According to the late Prince Nikita Romanoff, these dishes were with the Dowager Empress when she left Russia and traveled with her for her use. They were among the items she brought with her into exile, and descended within the family. This service, called the "Everyday service with the Arms and Gilt Rims" was originally commissioned in 1820 by Alexander I (1801-1825) for use at Gatchina Palace, and the service was expanded between 1825 and 1913.
