Description
**Originally Listed At $250**

Central Asia, Northern India / Tibet / Nepal, ca. 19th century CE. A brass torana - also known as a mandorla or aureole, which functioned as the decorative back for a devotional statue. The outer periphery is decorated with scrolling flames and at the pinnacle is a lotus flower. Centered is another lotus - the petals are tiered like a stupa. In Buddhism, the lotus symbolizes purity, enlightenment, and the potential for spiritual growth, as it emerges pristine and beautiful from the muddy waters. Fire symbolizes sacred beings, cleansing and purification, as well as knowledge and wisdom. Size: 7.25" L x 4" W (18.4 cm x 10.2 cm)
