Cast Iron Architectural Element, from the Old Wayne County Building, Detroit, Ca. 1840, H 25.25" L 28.5" | the Old Wayne County building "Opened July 9, 1845, and was a simple, two-story brick structure on Griswold and Congress streets. the building would quickly become cramped as the city's population grew from 9,102 in 1840 to 21,019 in just 10 years," according to HistoricDetroit.org. the element is black wrought iron. Circa 1840. Provenance: Property from a prominent Detroit, MI private collector.
