Description

Artist F.E. Robertson (20th century). "Frog Pond, Lexington, MA", 1948. Oil on board. Signed and dated, lower left. Title and date on artist label verso. Dimensions: 11" x 14". Framed: 15" x 18". Condition Good. It is amusing that Lexington, MA, known for its significance in the American revolution caught the attention of artist F.E. Robertson in 1948 not because of its history but because of its' frogs. It turns out that this Frog Pond painted by Robertson in 1948 must have been a vernal pond appearing in March and disappearing later in the summer, where frogs meet up to guarantee the next generation. Robertson is an accomplished painter but little is known about his artistic career. This painting has an exhibition label on verso and is part of the Thomas and Teresa Russell collection, assembled in the 1970â€™s celebrating overlooked American regional artists.
