Description
The carved walnut instrument with wood engraved printing on paper of Newell & Son, Makers, East End of Faneuil Hall, Boston signed by the engraver Callender scp. along with the cardinal points in block letters, fleur-de-lis at North, blued steel hand, hand carved sighting vanes with noticeable polished patina, on a tripod topped by a carved walnut head joining three spindle legs by wood peg construction.
Measures 51 x 14 x 6.5 inches.
Provenance: The estate of a collector active in Historical Re-enactment, Surveying the Frontier, Scientific Instruments. Lewis and Clark.

Condition
Very good condition, noting the cracked lens and grain splits form age, along with what appears to be later plaster holding the lens in place.
