Juan Nickford
(Source: cintasfoundation.org)Juan Nickford was born in Havana, Cuba in 1925. He became a member of the Sculptors Guild, Nickford held the title of Professor Emeritus of Art at City College of New York. He also taught at the University of Hartford and Smith College. His work was shown at the Whitney Museum and the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum, Fordham University and Lever House, among other venues. His work is in the collection of the Smith College Museum of Art and the Spaeth Foundation in New York. Among his many commissions are pieces for the Socony Oil Building and the Trade Show Building in New York, and the SS Santa Rosa. He received a Bronze Medal at the New York State Exposition. Nickford studied at the University of Havana School of Architecture. Nickford died in 2001.
