Rare and important Chinese gilt bronze figure of Amitayus; the deity shown seated in vajrasana atop a double lotus pedestal; the hair swept back in a topknot behind an elaborate five-leaf crown; the slender figure ornately dressed in shawls decorated with classic scroll at the hem with exposed torso festooned with beaded jewellery; elongated earlobes with large hanging pendant earrings; the left hand holding a ghanta, a Buddhist ritual bell, and the right hand holding a vajra, the symbolic representation of firmness of spirit and spiritual power; the base decorated with a band of alternating stylized shou longevity symbols and formalized lotus bloom; Ming Dynasty; the base incised with Tibetan script with double vajra symbol and pair of fu lion design; H: 65 cm, L: 30 cm, W: 40 cm, 18 kg.
