18TH CENTURY IMPERIAL KESI ALBUM OF POEMS ON THE 'WEST LAKE', the album of silk kesi mounted on paper, the first leaf with a kesi panel of a West Lake landscape, and the following leaves of panels in clerical script calligraphy, lishu, of five poems composed by the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795), each poem between five and eight stanzas long and prefaced yuzhi shi, 'Imperially composed Ode', the calligraphy wholly woven in kesi technique in black silk on a cream or unbleached silk ground. All of the writing is woven into the textile.

The overall condition is very good. The kesi album has several areas of foxing and old stains, as well as occasional typical loose thread ends.
