Description
WWII EARLY GERMAN SS OFFICER DEGEN SWORD
WWII German early SS officer's Degen sword with hanger and portepee.
Blade Length: 34.1/8"
Overall Length: 39.1/2"
Provenance: WWII Edged Weapon Collection of Philip R. Snyder, an avid collector of WWII memorabilia, specifically from Germany. His interest started as a teen with collecting WWII helmets and rifles that his father, Wilbur Snyder, brought home after serving in the Marines during WWII. The local paper, The Herald-Mail, published an article featuring his collection at the age of 16.
As an adult, Snyder focused his collection around WWII edged weapons. He pursued edged weapons for many years, acquiring many high-grade specimens. Snyder spent countless hours personally cataloguing many of his edged weapons and worked with LTC (Ret) Thomas M. Johnson when necessary for further research. Two of his pieces were published in the Thomas Johnson reference book, “Collecting the Edged Weapons of the third Reich Volume VII”, circa 1994. Snyder was an active collector until his death in 1994 at the age of 47.
