Description
A German porcelain lithophane plaque, Konigliche Porzellan Manufaktur, Berlin, circa 1850. The lithophane depicting a genre scene of a family group gathered around a table; a grandmother at left is engrossed in needlework and a large dog rests at the group's feet; the father, mother, and sons study maps, possibly of the battle shown in the scene behind them, a portrait of an army officer on the wall at upper left with a pistol, dirk, and powder horn hung above and below, suggests that the painting depicts a family member serving in the military; the reverse with the impressed mark KPM 105. Dimensions: 7" h x 5 5/8" (17.8 x 14.3 cm). A lithophane is a thin, finely molded porcelain plaque. When lit from the back, a three-dimensional scene in shades of black and white can be seen.
Condition
Overall very good antique condition, some small wear consistent with age, use, and materials.
