Description
C. 1909. Manufactured by the J.D. Phillips Co. of Frankfurt Germany and imported by The Rudolph Wurlitzer Co. New York. From an original Wurlitzer advertisement: "The PianOrchestra is without question the most wonderful self-playing musical instrument ever built. It is a combination of all the different instruments used in a full orchestra, assembled in a single magnificent case, and arranged to play in solo and concert work, exactly the same as a human orchestra". This is a beautiful example of a Wurlitzer PianOrchestra style 33A. 61 note scale instrumentation includes: piano with mandolin attachment, 49 violin pipes, 30 violincello pipes, 30 piccolo pipes, xylophone, bass and snare drums, kettle drums and cymbals, triangle and tambourine, castanets and chimes. The 33A contains Wurlitzer's auto-roll changer and comes with a mechanical bird cage. The bird cage is 20" high and 12" diameter and consists of a standard spring motor-powered unit with two mechanically operated birds. The spring motor mechanism is tripped for one cycle of play (lasting approximately 30 seconds) during the start of the PianOrchestra music roll rewind cycle. Condition: This 33A has had a complete restoration and is in working order. Comes with 56 Wurlitzer rolls, and can be disassembled for transport. Light wear from transportation. This is not a standard shippable item and will require 3rd party shipping or pickup arrangements to be made. Condition: (Excellent) Dimensions: 128" x 74" x 46 - 1/4".
