Hand colored, silver-gelatin photograph on matte double-weight stock. Matted and held in the original embossed cover stand. Signed, lower right in the image, with the photographers impressed signature "C. Endara ... Panama".

NOTES / REFERENCES: Carlos Endara Andrade, born in Equador, became Panama's most important photographer. He lived from 1867-1954. He studied art in Paris in the traditional salon style. Carlos Endara photographed the original French construction of the Panama Canal. After setting up the first photographic studio in Casco Viejo, the elite of Panama stepped through those doors to be immortalized in silver. Endara died in 1954. His studio was restored and is now a private museum.
