Description
Several of lots 504 through 527 are part of a group of Russian items consigned by a prominent Cincinnati family. All may have been purchased from the Armand Hammer Sale of Imperial Russian items held at Marshall Field & Company in Chicago in July of 1933. Many have documentation from the Hammer Collection. Others do not but the all reportedly came from the Hammer Sale.
Good Russian Icon silver cloisonné St. Petersburg Diptych, formerly the property of the Czar of Russia. Inside are the well detailed paintings of the Holy Mother of God on one wing and her Guardian Angel on the other, their surfaces highly glazed resembling a cover of thin glass and with the fine workmanship of cloisonné surrounding each. The gold washed silver is impressed with the Double Eagle crest beside the Cyrillic name of G. Grachev, the 88 standards with St. Petersburg symbol and the Cyrillic initials for AP. Comes with original fitted burl wood case lined in silk and red velvet and pressed with the Double Eagle and Grachev in gold. A typed auction tag reads “Russian Enamel on Silver, washed in Gold. Tuptych formerly the Property of the Czar of Russia." Excellent condition.
