Absolutely breath taking B. Neresheimer & Sons silver and ivory sculpture Depicting King Theodorich. He is shown in full armor with crowned antlered helmet. His face is constructed of sculptured ivory. He has his sword at his hip. He has a shield in left hand with eagle crest to shield. In his left hand is a large mace. The figure is set on rounded base having reticulated scrolled embellishments and four figural Griffin feet. Has a figural scroll plaque stating "Theodorich." to front. After the bronze statue "Theodoric the Great" from the monument of Emperor Maximilian I in the Court Church at Innsbruck. Holds holds old German Hanau Pseudo marks. Including 13 loth mark, n in sheild, eagle in sheild and sailing ship. Measures 23" height x 9 1/4" diameter (58.4cm x 23.4cm). Total weight of 109.805ozt / 3415 grams. Theodoric, Late Latin Theodoricus, also called Theodoric The Great. He was born 454 AD and died Aug. 30, 526AD in Ravenna. He was the King of the Ostrogoths (from 471), who invaded Italy in 488 and completed the conquest of virtually the entire peninsula and Sicily by 493, making himself king of Italy (493–526) and establishing his capital at Ravenna. In German and Icelandic legend, he is the prototype of Dietrich von Bern.
