Represented in this sale are objects from the Collections of George Way, Charles Schwep, F.H. Gardener, R. Ravenel and others from the Boston and New York City Areas.
In the present auction sale, it is our pleasure to be able to offer to our clients items from several well known collections, a large number representative of the Arts of Asia, India, China, Japan, Korea and the Islamic World, including two important Islamic manuscripts and an important carved red sandstone narrative scene of Garuda in combat with a multi-headed devil serpent.
The auction also presents a good number of objects from the world of Classical Antiquity, a life-size Roman portrait Head of a Lady, a portrait head of a Young Woman from the Late Roman or Early Byzantine Period, an excellent quality Ancient Greek, Athenian terra cotta fragment from the from the head of Silenus, the deity of merriment, Fertility and wine and others. Also, included is a rare Byzantine iron processional cross and a small two-handled, painted Hydria.
Also, we are happy to also offer a significant Renaissance Old Master painting by a student and follower of Leonardo, a significant Late Medieval Stained-Glass window, a Malines sculpted Relief of the Wisdom of Solomon, P.J. Mene small bronze of a Bull and a wide variety of works from all over the world.
