Featuring the estate of Helen Penrose Wolff Kahn. The doyenne of Douglaston Manor, New York. Beloved resident of 82 years. Helen and her late husband Bernie owned a magnificent waterfront residence which they furnished over a period of 50 years. The collection features over 100 paintings including several old masters, 19th century Continental and American paintings and a collection of Southwestern Art and accoutrements which adorned Bernie's Manhattan advertising agency. The Kahn's house was adorned with antique Italian, French, and American furniture. There are a number of Chinese and Asian items including porcelain, artwork, cloisonne and prints. Other categories include clocks, Louis Vuitton suitcases and travel bags, Oriental rugs, sterling silver, jewelry, textiles, brilliant period cut glass, European porcelains, antique French copper cookware, ornate gilded age brass beds, prints, wicker furniture, and a mid century modern iron porch set. Americana selections include a 19th century copper eagle weathervane with 46 inch wingspan, a Massachusetts Federal mahogany sideboard and a Mid-Atlantic slant front walnut desk. Furniture highlights include a pair of Venetian paint decorated cabinets, a 17th century style walnut carved Burgundian wedding cabinet, an Italian Rennaissance style carved walnut sideboard, and a R. J. Horner French style bronze mounted bedroom set. Continental art highlights include a 17th century Venetian portrait of a child in sumptuous silk wrap(Sotheby's provenance), a charming 18th century oil on canvas skating scene by Philipp Jacob Loutherbourg II (1740-1812) and a monumental landscape with cows by French artist Guillaume Wintz (1823-1899). American art highlights include William Hart (1823-1894) Pastoral Scene With Cows, Charles Frederick Kimball, Maine (1831-1903) Mountainous landscape with figures. Southwestern art highlights include two fine oil on canvas paintings by Earl Biss Jr dated 1978.
