James R. Bakker Antiques, Inc. will hold their Fall Live Online Fine Arts Auction featuring property from a distinguished Provincetown collection and other private collections on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 1pm.
Leading a strong selection of works by women artists of the Provincetown Art Colony is "Provincetown Dory Races II", a large oil by Nancy Whorf ($10,000/15,000) and "Self Portrait as Still Life" by Mary Spencer Nay ($4000/6000) last exhibited at the 1995 retrospective of her work at the Provincetown Art Association and illustrated on the cover of the catalogue. Other Provincetown women artists included in the auction are Evelin Bourne, Dorothy Lake Gregory, Pauline Palmer, Ada Rayner and Helen Sawyer.
A diverse group of paintings and works on paper by Arthur Cohen, Arthur Diehl, Nanno de Groot, John Hare, Charle Heinz, Joseph Kaplan, Karl Knaths, William Littlefield, Bruce McKain, Ross Moffett, Ray Nolin, Hein- rich Pfeiffer, Vollian Rann, Maurice Sterne, Harold Walker, Sol Wilson and George Yater will be offered to the highest bidders.
Woodcuts being offered include 'The Weirs-Provincetown' by William Zorach ($3000/5000), 'My Studio' by Blanche Lazzell ($1000/1500) and 'Windblown Trees' by Margaret Patterson ($3000/5000). Also offered in the sale are prints by Katherine Baltivik, Reynolds Beal, Virginia Berresford, Albert Edel, Xavier Gonzales, Tod Lindenmuth and Kathryn Lee Smith among others. A rare 1835 Provincetown family record sampler by Ruth Nickerson ($1000/1500), a William Boogar bronze lamp and a small selection of paint decorated panels and needlework by Peter Hunt and Nancy Whorf rounds out the sale with something for everyone.
