Description
TWAIN, MARK (SAMUEL CLEMENS). (1835-1910). American humorist and writer; author of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Prince and the Pauper, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and other American classics. CS. (“Mark Twain”). 1p. Oblong 12mo. N.p., N.d.

Twain earned national recognition in 1865 with the publication of his story “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” in the New York Saturday Press. His subsequent works included The Innocents Abroad, Tom Sawyer, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Life on the Mississippi, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. His literary output brought him fame and a steady stream of admirers and correspondents.

The small sheet has been folded and pasted down diagonally over the left corner of a black-and-white photo reproduction of Twain affixed to a larger, black sheet of paper, on the verso of which is a brief, pasted note by Canadian poet laureate Bliss Carmen (1861-1929), whose collections include Vagabondia, Behind the Arras, By the Aurelian Wall, Pipes of Pan, and Low Tide on Grand Pre. Some creasing and wear and in very good condition.
