31" x 11" x 6". Beautiful Spanish Colonial antique Saint Michael the Archangel carved and painted wooden Catholic folk sculpture/statue with glass eyes. Possibly 18th-19th century though may date to earlier. Figure is depicted wearing a blue tunic and has dark hair with gilt details such as the belt and brooches along the bottom of the tunic. Missing one wing as well as the left arm, which originally would have held a sword, and a finger from the right hand. Part of the bottom edge of the tunic appears to be missing as well. May have once been wearing a crown or head piece based on a line of discoloration around the head. Pieces are no longer with the sculpture. The paint, though still relatively vivid in color, especially the blue, is wrinkled/textured due to heat exposure and age and the gilt paint has faded. The sculpture appears to have been repainted multiple times, as multiple colored layers can be seen and the the piece was likely painted green and yellow prior to the color it is now. Other wear includes discoloration, chipping and scuffing to the paint, and some cracks and holes in the wood, especially to the remaining wing.
