"Utsikt over Geirangerfjorden" (View of Fjord Geiranger) Oil on Canvas, by Johan Christian Clausen Dahl  (1788 - 1857), signed bas droite. Dimensions: 25 5/8" X 25 5/8". Dahl, from Bergen, Norway is considered to be the Father of Norwegian landscape painting. In 1811 he went to study at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was professor at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts in 1824 and was a founding father of the National Gallery of Norway. Dahl won the Order of Vasa and Order of St. Olav. His fine works are displayed in The Bergen Kunstmuseum in Bergen, the National Gallery in Oslo, and The Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden. Strong demand for J.C. Dahl works is demonstrated by public sale prices above $300,000 and include specifically comparable works to this piece in terms of subject, style, color, mood and execution such as the sale price of $128,950 for the smaller "Fra Lauerud Naer Kongsberg" Lot # 6 at Blomqvist Auction House in Norway on March 31, 2011.
