The Pissarro family, works on paper
For the first time in its 50-year history, Stern Pissarro Gallery is holding an auction. This sale consists of works on paper from the Pissarro family, one of the art world?s unique artistic dynasties.
As the founding father of Impressionism, Camille Pissarro?s influence on artists such as Gauguin, Cézanne and Van Gogh amongst others is profound. Camille similarly inspired his own family, with all five sons becoming talented artists, followed by third and fourth generations.
Stern Pissarro Gallery run by David Stern and Lélia Pissarro, great grand-daughter of Camille, is the only gallery in the world to specialise in works of the Pissarro family.
On sale is a collection of works on paper by four generations of the Pissarro family, offering an insight into the ideas and motivations of these artists. Many of the drawings being auctioned are completely fresh to the art market, having come directly from estates within the family. Highlights of the collection include early double-sided drawings that Camille executed in Venezuela, an extremely rare drawing by Félix Pissarro, Camille?s third son who died at the age of twenty three, and a group of works by Georges Manzana Pissarro, framed for the first time, executed in Morocco, where he took refuge during the Second World War.
All works are accompanied by certificates of authenticity.
