STEINBECK, John. Case with pipes, etc. & 2 checkbooks.Rectangular hinged folding box (190 x 288 x 75 mm), constructed of printed pictorial stiff card boards ("Courvoisier - Cognac" labelled in red). Contains the following: 5 tobacco pipes, 4 pairs of reading spectacles (3 in cases), leather billfolds, lighters, a belt buckle, metal pins, keys, a tri-fold calf valise with "John Steinbeck" stamped in gilt. Some soiling to box, red hinge tie torn. An "at-hand" portable collection from the great writer.(3)
