A Very Rare 19th Century Zulu Pre-battle Ceremonial Axe
Origin: Zulu People (South Africa)
Time Period: 19th Century

Measures Approx: 65cm L""Pre-battle Zulu half moon axes are extremely rare to find because not too many survived over the years and the few are held in private collections and museums. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone to add this piece to their collection. Pre-battle Half Moon Axe's Traditional UseThese axes were common among Nguni tribes, Tsonga, Venda and Shona tribes across Southern Africa. They were used for ceremonial pre-battle rituals and some were used as a status symbols in the community. Semi circular blade (repurposed and likely from a European food chopper). Shona style wire-work with some loss commensurate to age and use. Carved, hollow semi-circular symbols on haft imitating the half moon blade.*Ships from the UK, not eligible for pickup*
